“Ten years ago most independent sponsors were fundless because they couldn’t raise a fund,” says Dan Lipson, a partner with Rotunda Capital Partners. “Today, many new firms are choosing to be independent. More and more family office investors and institutional capital sources are looking to co-invest and put money to work outside of the traditional GP/LP structure."
